Read It: The Hunger Games – Catching Fire

:: entering 2013 I set myself a personal challenge: read one book each week this year; 52 in total. why? if you read well you write well. the essence of this series is about books I read + that you should read… thus, ‘Read It’ ::

Book #3: // The Hunger Games: Catching Fire [Book Two], by Suzanne Collins

“The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol’s plans. The symbol of the rebellion.” – Katniss Everdeen

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy.

The first book was amazing (about it here). But this book, well, it takes The Hunger Games to a whole new level.

Continuing 9 months after becoming victors, Katniss + Peeta re-enter life as the new victors with the repercussions of their actions whilst in the arena closely behind them. The same characters remain from the first book, plus a handful of others introduced.

To be honest, I’m not too sure what to say when it comes to the plot of this particular book because the main grunt of the novel can take you by surprise… + I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who’s planning on reading it!

What I admire about Suzanne Collins’ books is that you feel like you’re part of the journey. From start to finish, it’s as though you’re right there with Katniss as it’s all happening + as her character develops. You feel Katniss’ frustration, loves, doubts, anger, confusion, strength, + pain.

While the first book touched on rebellion + survival, Catching Fire explores it head on. As you get closer + closer to the end, you find yourself turing the pages faster as it draws you into the adventure. When you read the last sentence, you can’t help but gasp.

That’s what I’m thoroughly loving about this series – it takes you on an adventurous journey + makes you feel part of it. The film version of this book is due out in November 2013. I am truly psyched about this, to see the book in visual form before my eyes.

But that’s not the end, there’s still one more book to read in this glorious series… which you’ll read about next week.
